Hello! Thank you for visiting Society Sweets! My name is Shana Clemence and I’m a self-taught baker. Hold on. Let me back up a bit. My passion for baking (and eating sweets) started when I was a little sassy redhead in my Grandma Jane’s kitchen in Studio City, California. My grandmother was my role model and taught me everything about the importance of being a lady. From lunches at the Bullock’s Wilshire Tea Room with my napkin in my lap and my elbows off the table, to being a part of her Clean Plate Society, I was always striving to please this incredible woman. She also taught me how to bake; mostly cookies, and mostly with butterscotch chips. She even let me skim the top spoonful off every newly purchased carton of Haagen Dazs ice cream, and from there my taste for sweets was born!
Over the years, I’ve baked because I love it and because it’s a way for me to show love and give a little piece of myself to those eating my treats. It was a natural fit for me to turn my passion for baking treats into my business. The name Society Sweets is a nod to Grandma Jane and her Clean Plate Society. I’ve noticed when I’m baking I feel closer to her. This tells me I’m headed in the right direction.
